It’s Thursday, and Lockheed Week continues.

Here’s the XF-90, a penetration fighter that took its maiden flight in 1949. That’s just four years after the end of WWII, and look how far we’ve come from straight-wing prop fighters. The idea behind the penetration fighter was basically that of an escort, designed for long range and to defend bombers against enemy interceptors. Only two XF-90s were built.

Good Morning

I’m currently attending a meeting on google meet that’s a product demo and we’re nearly 10 minutes in and the guy can’t get the presentation going.  Not a great start.

Yay online meetings. I’m struggling with teaching online, mostly just the whole idea of it. It’s very difficult to teach stone cold beginners over the internet. If we were together, we’d spend the whole 30-minute lesson playing together, but we can’t do that online. Plus, I’m dealing with shitty microphones in laptops and I can’t get Zoom to sound good, no matter the settings. This is a very non-ideal situation.

Yeah, I can’t imagine music lessons over video conference are easy.  I know there’s demand now, but just seems like it would be really hard.

You’d think by Week of the Coronapocalypse we’d all be experts at Zoom/Skype/whatever.

I’m going to recommend that they get inexpensive (relatively) external mics. Looks like you can get a decent one in the $40±  range.

Eh, looks too much like someone stuck two different airplanes together to my eyes. The J-20 has the same problem:

You’d think, we ended up dropping off the original meeting on Google Meet and restarting it on Webex...

That seems pretty reasonable, especially since music lessons aren’t something you do if you’re broke anyway.

And they are also recording lessons for band class, and can use the mic for all their online classes. Seems like a pretty reasonable expenditure at this time. And, since they’re all middle schoolers anyway, they’re probably all over Twitch, and they can have a bad ass Twitch mic to brag to their friends about. Everybody can be a streamer!!1!

Ha! I like the proposition. I’d definitely do it, I was looking for someone to do accordion lessons online and the few I was able to find were already booked full.

So I’m going through a book at the moment with middling results.

Through the Wonder of the Internet™ you could take accordion lessons from somebody in Australia.  Some of the biggest names in the trumpet world (and every other instrument, presumably) are filling their calendar and their bank accounts these days by advertising single lessons to anybody who has a PayPal account. In the old days, you had to fly to Cleveland to take a lesson with Mike Sachs. Now you can do it in the comfort of your own home.

That is an amazing shift here how it’s connected some folks.

I’ll look again but a few months ago I could really only find folks that taught the concertina online and I’ve got a full sized keyboard accordion.
